This award recognizes a Washington University in St. Louis postdoctoral appointee (associate or scholar) who demonstrates exceptional mentorship to WashU students or other postdocs. Awardees have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to support their mentees intellectually, socially, and personally, lending their time and knowledge to guide them, creating opportunities for them, and promoting nurturing academic environments. Awardees go above and beyond to help mentees advance their research and scholarship, hone their professional development skills, and achieve their career and professional goals.
- Nominees must be current Washington University in St. Louis postdoctoral appointees (associates or scholars) as of the close of the nomination process (April 14 for the 2025 cycle).
- WashU postdoctoral appointees in any department are eligible provided that they have engaged in the mentoring of students or other postdoc peers.
- Preference will be given to nominated postdocs who have participated in mentorship training provided by the OPA or other campus offices and organizations, including but not limited to the Center for Teaching and Learning, DBBS, or the Office of the Provost.
- Nominations may be submitted by current Washington University in St. Louis students (undergraduate or graduate) or postdoc peers who have been mentored by the WashU postdoctoral appointee nominee.
- Nominators are encouraged to think about mentorship broadly conceived, including mentoring in the lab or classroom, as well as in other capacities, like leadership, independent research assistance, advising, student affairs, or more.
- Self-nominations are not permitted for this award.
- A completed nomination form
- A 500-word or less statement that describes how the postdoc has demonstrated exceptional mentorship and why they are deserving of the Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award
