There are countless careers you can pursue that keeps you connected to research. Learn about how two WashU alums took vastly different pathways only to find themselves working at the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Paige Cooper-Byas, PhD and Mandeep Sekhon, MPH will answer questions about their career trajectories and how they found themselves working in the funding space. This event is for graduate students and postdocs only.

Paige Cooper-Byas, PhD
Program Officer

Dr. Paige Cooper joined BWF as a Program Officer in 2021. Before joining BWF, Dr. Cooper was previously the director of Duke University’s BioCoRE, where she designed professional development programming for graduate and undergraduate scholars. At BWF, Paige manages the biomedical and reproductive science portfolio. Dr. Cooper completed her BS in Biochemistry at Spelman College and PhD in Molecular Cell Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. She completed her postdoctoral research which focused on placental nutrient transport to the fetus at the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus.

Mandeep Sekhon Associate
Communications and Special Projects Officer

Mandeep Sekhon has been with BWF since 2017 first as a Program Associate and took on her new role in 2021. At BWF, Mandeep works with the President’s office and oversees the external communication strategy for BWF and manages the Science Communication portfolio. Mandeep received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Spanish from Washington University in St. Louis and will complete a Master of Public Health degree from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill next year.
