Navigating Difficult Conversations

August 10, 2022 to August 24, 2022
12:00 pm
Bernard Becker Medical Library, room 201, 660 S Euclid Drive, St Louis, Missouri 63110

Ever dread having a conversation with someone for fear of what might happen next?  Ever shied away from having a difficult conversation because you were uncertain about what to say or how to say it?  Avoiding difficult conversations is normal, but putting them off does not necessarily make them go away.  In fact, it can make things worse.  In this highly interactive 3-part series, participants will explore what gets in their way of having a difficult conversation and learn how to prepare for and constructively navigate such conversations. In session one (August 10), participants will learn ways of anticipating and dealing with emotions.  In session two (August 17), participants will learn how to identify their purpose in such conversations, test assumptions and learn how to truly listen. To pull everything together, in the third and final session (August 24) participants will learn how to confront tough topics and how to adjust in the moment to ensure the conversation goes as smoothly as possible.

This will be an in-person event on the Medical Campus (CSRB-North Tower Addition, room 101 ROOM CHANGE: Becker Library room 201). Because the workshops build upon one another, we hope you can commit to attending all three.
