Scientific Publishing: Behind the Scenes at Nature

June 21, 2023
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Connor Auditorium, 520 S Euclid Ave, St Louis, MO 63110

Nature is one of the flagship journals for publishing impactful and transformative research studies across scientific disciplines. Dr. George Caputa, senior editor for metabolism and cardiovascular biology, will outline the scope of the journal, what to consider when submitting, and how to navigate the peer review process. Following the talk, there will be the opportunity to ask questions and discuss Nature, publishing, and advances in scientific research.

Dr. George Caputa (they/them) obtained their PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2015 studying the role of non-coding RNAs in metabolic syndrome. Following that, they did a postdoc at the Max Planck for Immunology & Epigenetics investigating the ability of adipocytes to rewire their metabolism during bacterial infection. In 2020, they joined the editorial team at Nature Metabolism as an Associate Editor handling manuscripts on immunometabolism, cancer metabolism, molecular metabolism, cardiovascular biology, microbial metabolism, and the microbiome. In 2021, they joined the team at Nature as a Senior Editor handling molecular metabolism, cellular metabolism, mitochondrial biology & metabolism, organismal metabolism & physiology, cardiology, vascular biology, and clinical AI. George is based at the Berlin office for Springer Nature.
