Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement (Danforth Campus)

May 16, 2019
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

If you are applying for an academic position, it is increasingly likely that you will be asked to submit a teaching philosophy statement during the application process.

Participants in this workshop will learn about why academic search committees request teaching materials such as the teaching philosophy statement, and how search committees use these materials to assess candidates’ qualifications for teaching. Further, this workshop will help you navigate the genre of the teaching statement, offering you the opportunity to begin to think about how you will frame your commitment to teaching, and describe your teaching methods and goals to others in your academic field.

Once you’ve taken this workshop, you will be eligible to participate in the Teaching Center’s Jump-Start Program, a four-week guided peer writing group, that will take place over the summer.

Facilitator: Dr. Meg Gregory, Assistant Director, Academic Services, The Teaching Center
